Overall, despite some concerns—nonprofits—you’re lookin’ good!

The recent Constant Contact Nonprofit Pulse Survey uncovered how nonprofits are doing so far this year including their biggest challenges, financial health, and expectations for the rest of the year.

Attracting new supporters is the top marketing concern for nonprofits

  • 64% of nonprofits want to know how to attract new supporters (Tweet this)

Email marketing is the marketing activity that is effective for the majority of nonprofits

Nonprofits are known for using a wide variety of tactics to attract, engage, and ultimately raise funds from supporters.

  • 86% of nonprofits find email marketing to be an effective form of marketing (Tweet this)
  • 80% of nonprofits find their website to be an effective form of marketing (Tweet this)
  • 73% of nonprofits find in-person interactions to be an effective form of marketing (Tweet this)
  • 70% of nonprofits find events to be an effective form of marketing (Tweet this)

Facebook is far and away the most effective social network for nonprofits

Of those that use social media marketing…

  • 88% of nonprofits find Facebook to be the most effective social network (Tweet this)

  • 3% of nonprofits find LinkedIn to be the most effective social network (Tweet this)

Social media is the marketing activity nonprofits really want help with

While social media marketing is valued by a majority of nonprofits, it is also an area where they want guidance. The top marketing activities nonprofits need help with are:

  • 57% of nonprofits need help with social media marketing (Tweet this)
  • 36% of nonprofits need help with email marketing (Tweet this)
  • 35% of nonprofits need help with their website (Tweet this)

The health report is mostly positive  

The majority of nonprofits surveyed are stable or growing compared to 2011 and expect this year to be better than last.

Financial positives:

  • 49% of nonprofits have seen an increase in membership/funding so far this year, while 12% have seen a decrease (Tweet this)
  • 55% of nonprofits have adequate cash flow (Tweet this)
  • 67% of nonprofits expect membership/funding for this year to be more than last year, while 7% expect it to be less (Tweet this)

Financial challenges:

  • 46% of nonprofits are experiencing increased operating costs (Tweet this)
  • 35% of nonprofits need additional staff but are unable to hire (Tweet this)
  • 51% of nonprofits have increased the number of service offerings (Tweet this)
