As you may have heard, our previous image editing provider, Picnik, is shutting down on April 19th.
Google purchased Picnik a couple of years ago and has decided to no longer support the program, which is a bummer. Our users had grown to love Picnik and how easy it was to create awesome looking images.
We’re sad to see Picnik go, but luckily for us, some of the original Picnik engineers decided to take their expertise and start up a new image editing program, called PicMonkey. PicMonkey’s UI and features are very similar to Picnik, which means that you’ll feel comfortable using PicMonkey right from day one.

To try it out, simply click the “Edit Image” button while you’re inserting an image. PicMonkey will open up and you can make all sorts of cool edits to your image, like adding text, cropping, or adding a number of cool border options.
When you are done editing, just click “Save” in the bottom left section of the window and a copy of the image will be saved to your image library. You don’t need to worry about overwriting an image that you’ve already used in an email. Yes, it’s really that simple.
Some of my Favorite Features:
Text
One of the features that we loved in Picnik, which is just as easy (if not easier) to use in PicMonkey, is the ability to add text to your image. Here is how you do it:
- Once the PicMonkey window is open with your image, click on the “P” icon in left-hand margin
- Add your text in the text box above and hit “Add”
- Now you can resize, position, change fonts and colors, and number of other cool options, like “Blend Modes”
- Once you are happy, hit “Save” and the image will be saved back to you Constant Contact account.
Borders
A great way to make your images stand out is to add a border. PicMonkey makes this super easy. To add a border, do the following:
- In PicMonkey, click the border option in the left-hand navigation. It looks like a square with a border around it so it’s easy to spot.
- Select from one of their border options – my favorites are Museum Matte and Drop Shadow.
- PicMonkey gives you the ablity to customize things like color, border thickness, and on certain borders, like “Simple Edge” you can even leave a spot to add a caption (using the text tool described above). Awesome!
- Save the image back to Constant Contact!
We hope you like all of the functionality that PicMonkey provides and that the transition from Picnik is smooth and easy. Let us know what you think!
PicMonkey is free to all Constant Contact email marketing customers. Check out how you can make images for your email newsletter with Picmonkey or find out more about our email marketing product.
Is pic monkey included in my account or is there an extra charge?
Hi Catherine,

I cannot get any more than to edit a photo and change the collage. I can’t get text or anything else that’s shown here. What am I missing?
I think Pic Monkey is on the fritz today, its downloading random pictures into my Constant Contact picture library and edits are not working. Anybody else having this problem?
Hi Janet,
This is something we are working to resolve but I would like to follow up specifically with your account to get some more information. Can you send an email with you username and contact info to social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com so I can take a look?
Thanks,
Hannah
This is a great tool but it doesn’t solve the problem of making a good design; you have to start with a great design in order to end with a great one. Attempting to imporove a design one image at a time is not the right way to do this
Is this tool available as a stand-a-lone product?
Hi Robert,
You can use PicMonkey as a stand-a-lone product by going to http://www.picmonkey.com.
Awesome! Thank you Constant Contact!!!
I can’t figure out how to get it to open a picture of mine. Help? How does one insert an image?
How long will PicMonkey be free? And how much will it be to use the premium editing tool? I have been using picnik for a while and love it but I am absolutely adoring PicMonkey.
I LOVE IT!!!!! I am designing another newsletter and used the PicMoneky just out of curiosity. It is so very versatile and easy to use. Jump over and give it a try., Thanks CC.
Does picmonkey have drop shadow?
Yes – you can find the drop shadow option in the borders section!
Love the site! Is the next best thing after picnik was closed and I am sure it’ll get as good or even better soon! Thank you for it
)
How long will PicMonkey be free with the trial?
cant get photos to save to my computer. it shuts down browser
Hi ss, Sorry to hear this. Please contact PicMonkey with details about the problem: http://help.picmonkey.com/customer/portal/emails/new we’re always happy to help!
When I upload a photo to picmonkey, it constantly jumps up and down. I have a very hard time saving it because of this. Do you know how I can make the photo stay still? Thanks!
I have had that same problem too. Are you using a laptop? That is when it does it to me. I can use my desk top and it does not do that.
Hi there, this problem was brought to our attention a couple months ago and we think we’ve found a solution. If you haven’t checked back recently, please do! Let us know if you continue to have troubles: http://help.picmonkey.com/customer/portal/emails/new
I understand that the program is new, but I hope some of the bugs are worked out quickly. I have to continually reload the page due to the program freezing; which of course means starting the editing from scratch each time I have to reload, and I very much dislike the fact that I’m only able to upload one picture at a time. A premium member of the former picnik, I will not even begin to think about purchasing a premium membership on picmonkey until more of the bugs are worked out and more of picniks original features are included.
Can i add picmonkey in my site as a photo editor? if so how can i achieve that?
can you batch edit on picmonkey? It takes so long to edit 1 picture on picmonkey in constant contact and save that I am ready to can the rest of the photos after 1 takes so long!
The best thing about PicMonkey, is that it is quite easy to use and has interactive feature that is quite advantageous for users. But I have heard users complaining that while uploading pictures they have some problems like the picture is jumping up and down.
I agree with Mark. It is quite easy and the time it takes is less. I remember my friend using one and was quite hooked up with it. It is a great image editor software.
how do you save your photos after you have edited them >?
Just hit save and it will save them to your computer. It deos not save thme to theri site like Picnik did.
I used Picnik in the past and loved it. I used it to edit photos for bookcovers.
I have a problem doing this with Picmonkey, when I edit and save, it takes the image from 300dpi down to 96 dpi.
I tried using their save adjustments, Russell, King Kong but they still save it at 96!!! And there is no help at the site.
I love it but will have to give it up if I can’t figure this out. Help!!!
well its hard to finnd
i love picmonkey
Hello! Why can’t I upload textures? I can upload a photo before editing but when I’m already in the process of editing, I can’t upload textures. Even in collages, I can’t upload photos. Please help.

Hi Theresa,
PicMonkey is free to use for Constant Contact customers. Are you using My Library Plus? If not it may be that you’re out of space for pictures in your Constant Contact account.
Hi Sandi,
I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble with some of these options. We aren’t aware of any issues adding text to images, what happens when you click the text option on the left (It looks like a letter “P”) Once you click that icon you will want to click “Add Text” and then type in the text box for it to save. If you are still having trouble with this please follow up with me directly at social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com! Please provide your username and an explanation of what you are seeing happen when you try these steps.
Thanks,
Hannah M.
How do you widen a picture!?
