Product Update: Say “Hello” to Drag and Drop, New Templates, and More!

There’s always a ton of work going on behind the scenes to make all of our products better.

And today, we wanted to bring you up to speed on some updates and enhancements that recently went live for our Email Marketing product.

From drag and drop editing to new nonprofit email templates and more, these features are designed to make your editing experience easier, faster, and most importantly, make your business more successful!

Here’s a look at what’s new and improved:

Drag and drop

There’s no way to describe our new drag and drop feature other than “awesome.”  It makes editing emails so fast and easy—you’re going to love it.

Now you can simply drag and drop new blocks into your emails, along with any of the other standard insert options (like inserting a survey link or any of your social media buttons).

Just place your cursor over the block, or option you want to insert, and you’ll notice that you can drag it right into your template.

My favorite feature is how you can now drag and drop an image into your email right from the side panel.  When you click to add or change an image, you’ll notice we’ve added an Images tab between the Insert and Social tabs.  Just click it and you’ll be able to access all of the usual Insert Image options (like MyLibrary, the Stock Gallery, upload, and more) right there:

After you find an image that you want to use, just hover your mouse over it and you’ll notice that you can drag it right into your email (and of course, you can still click to insert your images as well).

New nonprofit templates

We’ve also released seven brand new, great looking, nonprofit-themed templates.  There are templates for newsletters, saying thank you, encouraging people to donate, asking people to volunteer, and more.

Not a nonprofit?  No worries.  These templates are for you too. They can easily be customized for your industry.  Log in and you’ll notice the templates featured in the template picker, or search for the keyword “nonprofit.”

The best part is that these nonprofit templates are just the first in a group of brand new templates we are currently working on that should be available over the next few months.

Small Business Saturday templates

To accompany our Small Business Saturday toolkit and help B2C retailers attract customers this holiday season, we’ve also just released three Small Business Saturday themed templates.

Just log in and you’ll notice them featured in the template picker as well, or you can search for them under the keywords “Small Business Saturday.”

New Formstack app

Our new Formstack app gives you another great way to grow your contacts. You can easily create a sign-up form and embed it directly on your website, which means no extra clicks for your potential subscribers.

After a contact signs up, they will automatically be added to your Constant Contact mailing list.  For the first time, you can even create multiple sign-up forms to capture different information for different segments of your list, and you get to select which list to use with each form.

This app comes with a free version for all Constant Contact customers, and you can find it within “Contacts” under “Grow My List.”

Learn more about the Formstack app in our MarketPlace.

Many of our improvements are based on your feedback and we want you to keep it coming!  Have a suggestion or idea how we can improve our products? Submit it here!

Hi Dave, Thanks for the up-date. This is a great addition to your service. Also, I am a Constant Contact customer. I’m a senior and I’m some what behind in the world of on-line advertising.   Do you have anybody in the Los Angeles/Orange county area that tutors “want to be” Constant Contant experts? I would like to understand and take advantage of all the great programs I can apply for my business. I have attended your one day class and left very confused. (my problem not your instructor)

    thank you, Larry Holmes

    • Hey Larry – thanks for the feedback. Yes we do! We actually have a Regional Development Director in the Southern California area — here’s a list of all of her upcoming seminars that you could attend: http://conta.cc/NN8syB. One of the (many) other things that also do are bootcamps – which are more dedicated product training sessions. Here’s a list of them: http://conta.cc/bMILsn. I’ll shoot you an email to follow up as well. Have a good day!

    • Hello from Orcas Island … ME TOO – I second what Larry is requesting. I am also a senior and Constant Contact customer – and have been happily using emails for my book award business for almost 5 years now .. .I’ve learned a lot from experience – and from attending a couple of workshops. I am definitely a ‘wannabe’ Constant Contact expert – and would love to know if there is anyone in the Seattle or north of Seattle area who would be willing to come teach a course . Everyone I’ve ever attended in this area have been well-attended – so I think this is another “hot” area for training sessions.Especially to explain how to use the new features in the design program – using social media – ‘dragging ‘n dropping’ … etc.

Please let me know if or when anything like this will be available ..

      Thanks so much … Marilyn

  2. Great innovations! Does that mean we can now copy blocks that were used in previous emails into a new one? That would be really great.

    • Thanks Paul! You cant copy a specific block and use it in a new email — however, you can copy a previous email, which would allow to use that exact block again.

      • Hi Dave, It would be really useful if you could copy an old block. I have a rolling programme of activities with events that pop up again every few months. You can only start with one copy – so every other item has to be typed as a new item. Each of my emails has maybe 6-8 blocks and I would love to pick & mix from old & new ones.

These are great additions to Constant Contact. I wish it was possible to copy a specific block for use in another email template. We use a few different templates so the option to copy the entire email and use it in another doesn’t work for us. Thanks!

    • Paul,

There IS actually a way to copy a block from one email to another. You simply copy the HTML code from one email and place it in another email. I have done this many times for clients. I would be happy to show you how to do this. It is rather simple once you have done it once or twice. As Constant Contact business partners, we offer a free complimentary consultation. If you would like help learning how to do this, please let me know.

Dave, great news. I have been pushing to improve CC’s reporting (I am a current customer). I’d like to be able to click on any of my contacts and find out which email campaigns they’ve seen/clicked on. I would also like to create a report showing all email campaigns and all contacts and which contacts clicked/saw which email campaigns. This seems very easy to implement and I don’t understand why CC hasn’t done this yet… thank you!

    • Thanks for the feedback Marcelo — I’ll pass your suggestion on to the team that works on contacts and reporting. Appreciate it.

      • Hi Marcelo. I am on that team that works on our reporting and analytics, so thank you for the suggestions. What you are describing is what I consider Engagement Reporting (show me all my contacts who opened, clicked, etc.. across campaigns.). That is something we are working on presently and I would love to get your input on what you want to do with that information. Feel free to email me directly. Thanks, Jonathan

    • Hi Marcelo,
Although I know of no report that gives you all this information, you can actually click on a contact and see what emails they’ve opened, what emails you sent them that bounced, etc. As Constant Contact business partners, we offer a free complimentary consultation. If you would like help learning how to access this information, please let me know.

  4. Is there a way to rearrange copy blocks within a template? It never fails, I’m almost done and something comes up that should be at the top and it ends up at the bottom of the list. (it could be user lack of knowledge too!) And, thanks for this addition!

    Reply
    • Yep! If you take your mouse and hover over the block that you want to move, you’ll notice a symbol with four arrows in the top right hand corner of the block. You can click and drag that blog and rearrange. Hope this helps!

  5. Love the ease of your recent innovations – great work. What I really need are some new templates. Are there any in the works?

  6. Thanks! We love hearing that! Glad that you asked about new templates because we’ve just released some really great looking new ones — if you login you’ll notice them featured in the template picker. They are themed for nonprofits, but you can customize them all to fit your business and match your brand (if you cant find them, just search under the keyword “nonprofit”). We’ll be rolling out more new templates soon too (B2B, B2C and generic) so keep an eye out!

  7. We have events that happen on an annual basis and we end up copying and pasteing between the two emails. Depending on when we send out emails the copy email command doesn’t always work. Is or will there be a way in the future tomovenindividual stories from email to email more efficiently?

  8. Can I only Drag & Drop from My Library or Stock Photos? I upload my graphics to our newsletter from a location with the URL address option. We have lots of pictures of our current theatrical productions so having you store them could be expensive.
Am I correct in assuming that I can’t have a split screen or 2nd window open and drag and drop from my storage location on our server to the Constant Contact email?

    Reply
    • Hi Lois – thanks for the feedback. That is correct. In order to upload an image, you would need to upload it to MyLibrary or the web. However — I dont want you to think MyLibrary Plus is expensive! We store up to 50 MB and you get over 4,000 stock images and it’s only $5/month. Hope this helps.
