  1. Great infographic. The algorithms are definitely forcing us to become much more strategic in what we post (even if we aren’t spambots). Early on, all content received equal billing. As more and more people sign up and the algorithms become more and more sophisticated, the amount of time your posts are visible to your followers will likely continue to diminish. As you pointed out, with EdgeRank Facebook is using data to determine if and for how long your content is seen by your followers. Although likes were once all of the rage, now it’s about comments and shares. Your content should drive engagement. More value, less spam.

    • First, Constant Contact’s chart and explanation about social networking and how to avoid “spam” are very clear. However, in step #3 the chart suggests posting on Facebook 1-2 x’s per day and on Twitter 1-4 x’s per hour.

      I find this to be a distraction – it takes time out of my day’s work – and I don’t get responses and if I did get responses then I would have to continue with the time it takes to follow-up on them.

      Q: What is in the text in the “embedded infographic”? (New to me). It would help to know what it is. P.S. Are there any “Twitter or Faceook “how-to” classes. Maybe I am just not getting it!

        RE: Step #3, those suggested posting frequencies for Twitter and Facebook they come from a report on the science of social timing which found that those frequencies get the highest engagement rate. I would consider it a guide as you develop a schedule that works for your business. I hear you on the distractions though. One of the things I’ve found helpful is planning posts ahead of time and using a tool like hootsuite to schedule them in advance. Then I save a slice of time in the day specifically for responding this way it’s part of my routine rather than a distraction.
